Specialised in complete transportation solutions, MAKIOS S.A. is established in the national and international transportation sector since 75 years. Today, it is a leading transportation company in Greece. Since 2001 the company started to operate as a 3rd party logistics provider. Below follows the historical background of the company:
•1927 Company was established as an individual enterprise by Thrasivoulos Makios. The main activity was the transportation of tobacco from Kavala to Thessaloniki with privately-owned trucks.
•1940 By the beginning of the War the company interrupted its operations.
•1949 The company was re-established and it operated as a transportation company of general cargo and parcel distribution from Kavala to Thessaloniki.
•1964 The company's fleet consisted of 5 privately-owned trucks.
•1975 First contract agreement with Nestle Hellas. The company's operation changed from general to specialized transportation. The company fleet consisted of sterile, stainless tanks that were presented for first time in Greece.
•1977 MAKIOS S.A was founded in Thessaloniki. Chairman of the company undertook Stratos Makios and Vice-president Thomas Makios. Nowadays, they are in the same positions with the addition of Thrasivoulos Makios as General Director. The company started to operate around Greece and Europe with privately-owned commercial trucks.
•1998 The company involved in an investment project related to the construction of warehousing facilities of dry cargo and cold stores.
•1999 MAKIOS S.A strengthened its fleet with refrigerated trucks that are able to deliver products in three different temperatures (dry, chilled and frozen).
•2001 The new warehouse project was in operation for the first time. The capacity of the facilities was 10.000 pallet places for dry cargo and 6.000 pallet places for frozen goods.
•2002 Warehouses are expanded. The new capacity for cold stores is 10.000 pallet places and for dry cargo stores is 15.000 pallet places. A special distribution centre is constructed. This is equipped with cross-docking area, compartments of chilled and frozen goods as well as special storage area for fresh fish and poultry
•2004 Cold stores further expanded and the new total capacity comes to 20.000 pallet places. In addition, the company constructed offices for its customers with capacity of 1.000 sq.m.
