Νέα > Νέα 2016 > ECSLA WAS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMISSION EXPERT FORUM FOR A BETTER FUNCTIONING FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN

ECSLA was selected by the European Commission to participate as an expert in the High Level Forum for a better functioning food supply chain.

The European Commission has set up this new High Level Forum for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain to help develop policy in the food and drink sector and contribute to a better functioning food supply chain.

Other experts to participate in the Forum will comprise Member State national authorities responsible for the food sector at ministerial level, and representatives of the private sector, namely:

  • organisations actively involved in the agro-food industry, and in the trade and distribution of agro-food products in the Union
  • EU umbrella associations and federations representing agriculture, food processing, trade and the distribution of agro-food products in the EU
  • non-governmental organisations, with expertise in matters relating to the food supply chain.

ECSLA’s successful application was submitted together with UEAPME, the European Association for small and medium sized enterprises.

Examples of the Forum’s work during the previous mandate (2010-2014) include:

  • facilitated the launch of a voluntary code of conduct, the Supply Chain Initiative, which aims to eliminate unfair business-to-business trading practice in the food supply chain
  • discussed ways to improve the sustainability of the food system
  • discussed emerging challenges such as food taxes.
